Family Adventures 2013

Family Adventure, Prince William Alaska

The Destination

Millions of years of glaciations have gradually carved away a coastal plateau creating Prince William Sound and its many tributary fjords, passageways, islands, and rocky shores.  Encompassing 7,000 miles of ocean, river deltas, tidal flats, and glaciers, Prince William Sound is a sea kayaker’s paradise. Snow capped mountains shelter the sound from outside influence and protects a rich diversity of life.  Bears, eagles, sea lions, seals, orcas, porpoise and countless birds feast on the most productive salmon runs in the world, while humpback whales gorge all summer on plankton in preparation for their winter journey to their Hawaiian breeding grounds. We begin our journey in Anchorage and continue on to Whittier, where our expert guides will provide sea kayaking instruction and trip preparation for this unique expedition and truly "once in a lifetime" Alaskan adventure.

The Experience

We will focus on healing the relationship between parent and teen child in a natural way.  Letting  the ocean and campfires create the atmosphere for true unencumbered change Ruben will guide the teen to be their true authentic self before their parent.  Learning to communicate in a transparent way, parent and child will connect in real way that will be refreshingly fun and emotionally safe.  We will create a practical road map for future growth as they return home from the wilderness.

Ruben Jimenez

Ruben is a author, coach, clinician, and counselor with a unique style and sensibility. He combines a high level of academic and clinical training with the kind of life experience-including years of working as a Wilderness Therapist-that enable a deeper, intuitive understanding of human dynamics. Ruben works with-and speaks directly to-both parents and young adults, drawing on over a decade of experience "on the ground" - in the living rooms and at kitchen tables, in the wilderness, on the road, over the phone, wherever and however he is needed. Ruben has recently completed "The Road Home", a guide for parent of kids coming home from a therapuetic treatment program.

Family Holiday Adventure, Bahamas

The Destination

The Exuma Cays are a string of over 350 islands that comprise the Exuma district of the Bahamas. These islands stretch lazily across the Tropic of Cancer about 300 miles southeast of the coastal United States.  The Islands, formed of oolitic limestone, have been dramatically carved by wind and water to form breathtaking cliffs and overhangs that merge seamlessly with white sand beaches and sapphire waters. Although their soil is thin, it supports lush foliage that appears to grow from the rock itself. We will explore exquisite reefs exploding with fish and corals, and kayak through quiet trails of mangrove estuaries and the crystal-clear backcountry home of stingrays, starfish, anemones, sea turtles, lemon shark and the elusive bonefish. Here, you may share your campsite with a 200 year-old tortoise or docile two-foot long Bahamian Dragon iguana. If natural harbors, secluded beaches, warm trade-wind breezes, and the world’s clearest water appeal to you, then join us in savoring this “castaway” paradise.
